The Ninth US was originally organized under the July 16th 1798 act made by John Adams. So in January 1799, the commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Commandant Josiah Carville Hall and the rest of the officers would be recruited from Maryland. On January 5th 1800 the War Department made an order that the regiment would be recruited from Maryland in February of the same year, an act was passed to suspend enlistment to the regiment. May 14th 1800 President Adams was Autorized to discharge everyone in the regiment on June 15th 1800 the Ninth US would be disbanded.

In January 11th 1812 an act was made to reinstate the Ninth US Infantry. In march recruiting started under the command of Colonel Simon Learned out of Massachusetts. The Ninth would fight in a lot of the conflicts along the Canadian border in 1813 and 1814. On May 27th 1813 the Ninth would go and join the US invasion of Canada by attacking Fort George the US would hold Fort George and Newark until December of 1813. After the battle of Fort George the Ninth along with the 21st and the 23rd would defend the shipyards at Sackets Harbor from the British on May 29th. They then rejoined the US army that was at Fort George and was apart of the force that was going to attack Burlington Heights. On the night of June 5th and morning of June 6th the British attacked the Us camp and managed to prevent most of Upper Canada falling to the Americans.

In the spring of 1814 Brigadier General Winfield Scott trained the 9th, 11th, 22nd, 25th U.S. infantry as a Brigade in a translated French manual used by Napoleon’s army as well made the regiments give all their blue coats to the 21st infantry and used Grey coats. On July 3rd the Us invaded Canada again this time at Fort Erie then on the 5th Winfield Scott’s Brigade fought and won against the British on an open field at the Battle of Chippawa. An interesting fact about this battle at West Point Military Academy they still use they grey coats as a cermonial uniform because of the battle. On July 25th the Ninth would participate at the Battle of Lundy’s Lane where amongst the casulties of the battle the Ninth would lose a Captain by the name of Abraham Fuller Hull who is actualy barried in the same cemetary as Laura Secord and Gordon Drummond. This battle was a stail mate and the Americans retreated to Fort Erie. After the retreat back to Fort Erie the Fortifacations were expanded to accomadate the Us military and on the 4th to the 15th the British bombared the Fort. On August 15th after almost 2 weeks of bombarding the British thought they could capture the fort so they planned a night assault on the night of the 15th. The British originaly planned to have a three prong attack with a distraction by the remains of the Indigenous who support the British how ever the Indigenous were late and two out of the three prongs failed and it took three tries to get into the North East section of the fort. While the British were pushing the Americans away from the Bastion an explosion happened killing most of the British who were in the fort. While the British were deciding on what to do now that they lost most of their force the Americans tried to take the cannons that were bombarding the Fort out of the three gun batteries two out of three batteries before being forced back to the Fort.
